Web-based PM Tools and Virtual Construction Design

Speaker: Dr. Salman Azhar

Dr. Salman Azhar is an Assistant Professor in the McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University, Alabama. He earned his doctoral degree in Construction Management from the Florida International University, Miami, Florida. He has an M. Eng Degree in Structural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok and B.Sc. Civil Engineering from UET, Lahore. Based on the quality of his research work, he received Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate Award from the Florida International University, Miami in 2005. He has published over 50 papers in refereed journals, conference proceedings and edited books. He has over 10 years of research, teaching and construction industry experience by working in USA, Hong Kong, Thailand and Pakistan.

This seminar focused on two emerging technologies namely

  • Web-based PM
  • Virtual Design & Construction (VDC).

With the beginning of the new millennium, the PM has entered into a new era. In this seminar a review of current & emerging Web-based techniques and methodologies, such as virtual design studios, online bidding and permitting, online project administration, and online project monitoring and control will be presented with the help of several case-studies. The second part of the seminar concentrated on a relatively new concept called as Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). VDC represents the development and use of digital models to simulate the planning, design, construction and operation of a building facility.
