Project Management Skills for Post Disaster Management

Date: Friday 1st October, 2010

Speaker: Paul Steinfort, PMP, FIE Aust, FAIPM

The recent floods in Pakistan have affected over 17 million people to date, making it one of the largest natural disasters of our time. A key element in coordinating relief activities is to reach as many people as quickly as possible, using all available resources. Current relief agencies in Pakistan include the Government, the Military, International Agencies, as well as Local NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Coordination amongst these groups is a critical requirement in order to deliver effective aid and timely relief. Such coordination requires concrete project & program management skills combined with real disaster management experience .

Paul Steinfort has extensive experience in post disaster recovery planning of complex multi-disciplined projects. Paul has led the way in new Project Management implementation for major projects such as the MCG Re-development, and for Post Tsunami, Earthquake, Bushfire and Cyclone Programs in Australia and Asia (Aceh, Indonesia, India, Asia, Darwin, Victoria, Australia).
